Matcha latte calorie calculator
Build the drink you actually make — milk, size, dose, sweetener — and see the total split by source. The split is the useful part: it shows you which single change would move the number, and which ones are noise.
The short answer
A matcha latte runs from about 50 to 240 calories, and the milk decides nearly all of it. The matcha itself is about 3 calories per gram — roughly 9 in a latte-sized dose. If you want a lighter drink, change the milk; changing the tea does nothing.
2g for a bowl, 3g for a latte. Matcha itself contributes about 3 calories per gram.

Read: Almost all of this is milk. Switching milk moves this number far more than changing matcha dose or brand.
Milk figures are mid-market supermarket values and vary by roughly 15% between brands — barista oat milks in particular run higher than the standard cartons. Café drinks are usually higher again, because the powder is often pre-sweetened before it reaches the cup.
Common drinks, for reference
| Drink | Calories | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Whisked bowl, 2g, no milk | ≈ 6 | The tea alone |
| 350ml latte, unsweetened almond | ≈ 53 | Milk, barely |
| 350ml latte, skimmed dairy | ≈ 108 | Milk |
| 350ml latte, barista oat | ≈ 180 | Milk |
| 350ml latte, whole dairy | ≈ 186 | Milk |
| 470ml iced latte, oat, 2 tsp sugar | ≈ 210 | Milk, then sugar |
| Café grande, pre-sweetened powder | ≈ 240 | Sugar in the powder |
The oat milk surprise
Oat milk reads as the health choice and is ordered as one, but barista blends — the ones that foam properly and do not split in hot tea — contain added oil precisely so they behave like dairy. At roughly 59 calories per 100ml they sit level with whole milk. Standard non-barista oat cartons are lower, around 45, but they curdle more readily against matcha's acidity.
This matters because milk is the only lever with real weight. Moving from barista oat to unsweetened almond on a 350ml latte cuts around 130 calories. Halving your matcha dose saves four, and ruins the drink.
Café drinks are a different question
Most chains scoop from a pre-mixed tin whose first ingredient is sugar. That means the sweetness is inside the powder rather than added at the bar, so there is no unsweetened version to order and no pump to leave out. A 16oz café matcha latte typically lands near 240 calories with whole milk, and most of the gap between that and a home version is sugar you did not choose.

Frequently asked
How many calories are in a matcha latte?
Between roughly 50 and 240, and the milk decides almost all of it. A 350ml latte made with unsweetened almond milk lands near 53 calories; the same drink with barista oat milk is around 180, and with whole dairy about 186. Matcha itself contributes about 3 calories per gram, so the tea is never more than single digits.
Does matcha powder itself have calories?
A little. Because you drink the whole ground leaf rather than an infusion, matcha carries roughly 3 calories per gram — about 6 calories in a standard 2g bowl. Steeped green tea is effectively zero, since the leaf is discarded. It is a real difference, but far too small to matter next to milk.
Is oat milk a low-calorie choice for matcha?
No, and this surprises people. Barista oat blends contain added oil to make them foam, which puts them at around 59 calories per 100ml — effectively level with whole dairy. If calories are the goal, unsweetened almond milk at about 15 per 100ml is the only milk that changes the number substantially.
Why is a café matcha latte higher than the same drink at home?
Because most chains use a pre-sweetened powder, where sugar is the first ingredient by weight. You are not adding sugar to matcha; you are adding milk to a sugar-and-matcha blend. That is typically 25 to 35 grams of sugar in a 16oz drink before any syrup, and it cannot be ordered out.
How much does sweetener add?
A teaspoon of sugar is about 16 calories, honey 21, maple 17 and simple syrup around 10 because it is diluted. A café syrup pump is roughly a tablespoon, so count three teaspoons per pump — two pumps is 60 calories or so, which is more than the matcha in the cup by an order of magnitude.
Does iced matcha have fewer calories than hot?
Usually yes, but only because ice takes up volume. A 470ml iced latte holds roughly a quarter ice, so it carries less milk than a 470ml hot one — perhaps 25% fewer calories for the same cup size. Nothing about the temperature itself changes anything.
