About MatchaWhat
MatchaWhat is an independent reference site about matcha — what it is, how to make it, what it tastes like, what tools you actually need, and how it compares to coffee and other green teas.
Why this site exists
Most of the matcha content online is either sponsored fluff or one-sentence answers to questions that deserve a few paragraphs. We wanted a clean, opinionated guide that uses real numbers — milligrams of caffeine, grams of matcha, prices that exist — and tells you what's worth your money instead of what we're paid to promote.
What you'll find
- Caffeine answers — by serving, by grade, and against coffee.
- Recipes that actually work — with ratios, temperatures, and the no-clump trick.
- Preparation guides for traditional, no-whisk, and iced.
- Tool guides — what to buy, what to skip, what to spend.
- A glossary so you can read any matcha label or recipe without Googling.
Editorial principles
We don't accept paid placements in articles. We don't recommend products we wouldn't actually use. Numbers come from published sources where possible and from our own kitchen testing where not — and when they're estimates, we say so. Where matcha values vary by brand or harvest, we say that too.
