Kusenaoshi

The ceramic stand that holds a chasen between uses.

Also known as: chasen rest, whisk holder

A kusenaoshi (sometimes called a chasen rest or chasen-tate) is a small ceramic stand shaped like a half-dome with a center peg. The chasen sits prongs-up over the peg between uses, which keeps the bamboo prongs flared and dry. Without it, the prongs collapse together and the whisk loses its shape within weeks. A $5 kusenaoshi extends a $20 chasen's life by months — easily the best return-on-spend in your matcha kit.
