Chashaku

The bamboo scoop used to measure matcha.

Also known as: matcha scoop, bamboo scoop

A chashaku is a slim bamboo scoop carved from a single piece of bamboo, used to measure matcha powder from its tin into the chawan. One heaping chashaku scoop is roughly 1 gram of matcha — two scoops give you the standard usucha serving. While a teaspoon works fine, the chashaku adds nothing to cleanup (just wipe it dry) and measures more accurately than a kitchen spoon.
